Turkish pazars are famous for good reason, and Antalya pazars live up to the hype. From mouth-wateringly juicy cherries and perfectly plump peaches, to amazingly sweet carrots and the most crisp and delicious cucumbers you will ever taste, fruits and vegetables purchased from the local neighborhood markets do not disappoint. You can also find inexpensive bargains on knock-off clothing brands and shoes at most pazars. Don’t plan on haggling too much for the price, as most pazar sellers have set prices that are often displayed on signs.
Be sure to bring a pazar cart if you plan on purchasing a lot, and do the environment a favor by bringing your own reusable bags which the pazarcı (sellers) will happily fill. Feel free to ask if you can try a bite of fruit if you aren’t offered some, and toss any leftover seeds, pits, or skins on the ground under the table. We promise it’s okay. City workers come around at night and clean up the ginormous mess left behind.
You typically get to choose your own produce, which is charged by the gram or kilo, and when you finish loading your bag, the pazarcı will weigh it and tell you how much it costs. If there isn’t a sign and you want to know the price before picking your produce, simply remember to say, “Naked are?” (“Ne kadar” in Turkish, which basically means “How much?”)
